Author Brett Hurt presents his book 'Love Conquers Fear' in conversation with moderator Mark Gober at BookPeople.
Brett Hurt is coming to BookPeople on Sunday, August 23, to talk about his new book, Love Conquers Fear. It's a conversation rather than a lecture, with Hurt sitting down with moderator Mark Gober. The whole thing is free and open to the public, so you don't need a ticket to pull up a chair.
If you're not familiar with Hurt, he's a serial tech entrepreneur, investor, and USA TODAY best-selling author who lives and works right here in Austin. He's spent his career building companies: he was CEO and co-founder of data.world, which ServiceNow acquired in 2025; he founded Bazaarvoice, which had a $1B NASDAQ IPO; and he started Coremetrics, which IBM bought for $300M. These days, he and his wife Debra co-lead Hurt Family Investments, which backs more than 150 startups.
Love Conquers Fear looks at where several big shifts are meeting at once: AI, quantum computing, robotics, and brain-computer interfaces. Hurt calls that convergence the "Superfecta," and he argues that for humanity to navigate it, we have to move past a scarcity mindset and toward what he calls an "Age of Abundance for All." It's a conversation that sits at the intersection of science, spirituality, and story.

Mark Gober, who'll be moderating, is an award-winning author himself. He wrote the seven-book Upside Down series, which covers consciousness, politics, economics, UFOs, medicine, and cosmology, and he's been a board member of the Institute of Noetic Sciences since 2019. Between the two of them, the talk should cover a lot of ground.
