Grammy Award winners Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves unite to pay tribute to the legacy of John Coltrane in a special jazz concert.
Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves bring a tribute to John Coltrane to the Hogg Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The concert is presented by Texas Performing Arts, and it comes at a specific moment: September 2026 marks the centennial of Coltrane's birth. The whole evening is built around that legacy.
For the performance, Reeves joins the Branford Marsalis Quartet. Together they're focusing on the 1963 collaboration between Coltrane and vocalist Johnny Hartman, a record that paired Coltrane's saxophone with Hartman's baritone on a series of standards. That's the material they're bringing to the stage—Coltrane's timeless repertoire, with Reeves taking over the vocal role.
Both Marsalis and Reeves are NEA Jazz Masters and Grammy Award winners, and they're coming off a companion album release on Blue Note Records. The live set will draw from that recording, so you'll hear the same material they've been working through in the studio. With the quartet backing them, the night is a direct nod to the Coltrane-Hartman pairing, just with a different voice on the front end.
