A free celebration of Texas authors with readings on Southern history, memoir, journalism, and sci-fi fantasy, featuring six local writers.
BookPeople is hosting a Local Author Spotlight on Saturday, July 18, at 2 PM, bringing six Texas writers together for an afternoon of readings. It's a free event, and the lineup covers a wide spread of ground: Southern history, memoir, journalism, and sci-fi fantasy. The readings are the main draw, but there's a two-hour window for meet-and-greets, photos, and book signings, so you can actually talk to the authors after they've read.
Here's who will be there. Anita Varma is the author of Solidarity in Journalism. Chloe Walton is an AuDHD author whose debut novel is The Weight of Silence. Olga Fink writes dystopian fiction. Melvin E. Edwards is an award-winning journalist and podcaster known for Stories from Real Life and books like The Eyes of Texans. Charles Francis Guittard is an Austin-born former mediator who wrote a trilogy about his grandfather and Baylor University. And Nancy Davis Labastida is a former tennis champion and sociology graduate.

If you're planning to get a book signed, there's one detail to keep in mind: you'll need to buy a copy of the author's book, or an item of equal value, from BookPeople. The event is free to attend, and it runs at 603 North Lamar Boulevard in downtown Austin. The whole thing kicks off at 2 PM.
