Concert by Texas singer-songwriter Bonnie Bishop at the 04 Center in Austin.
Bonnie Bishop plays the 04 Center on Wednesday, March 31, 2027. It's a homecoming of sorts—Bishop is a Texas singer-songwriter working in soul and Americana, and she's recorded eight albums over the course of her career.
She graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in sociology and moved to Nashville in 2008. While there, she wrote with Mike Reid, Jimmy Wallace, and Al Anderson. One of those songs, "Not Cause I Wanted To," was recorded by Bonnie Raitt and earned a Grammy for Best Americana Album in 2013. She later returned to Texas and released Ain't Who I Was in 2016, produced by David Cobb, and The Walk in 2019, produced by Steve Jordan, who has worked with Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, and John Mayer. Her work has drawn critical acclaim from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and NPR.
Beyond the recording studio, Bishop has taken a few detours. She stepped away from the music business for a while to pursue a master's in creative writing at Sewanee: The University of the South. She also runs Songwriting With Soldiers, a non-profit that pairs professional songwriters with veterans and active-duty military.
