Weekly blues jam session hosted by Harold McMillan and the house band Assorted Chocolates at Kenny Dorham's Backyard, a community arts space in East Austin.
Blue Monday Blues Jam is back at Kenny Dorham's Backyard tonight, Monday, October 12, from 7 PM to 10 PM. It's a weekly jam session in East Austin, hosted by Harold McMillan and the house band Assorted Chocolates. The format is open: legends and newcomers share the stage, and the crowd fills in the gaps. It's been an East Austin tradition for more than 25 years.
The night is sponsored by the East Austin Creative Coalition and named for Kenny Dorham, the jazz trumpeter who once lived in the neighborhood. The venue itself, Kenny Dorham's Backyard, is an open-air community arts space run by Diverse Arts. It's home to grassroots jazz, blues, and cultural events, alongside food trailers, community gardens, and art that celebrates East Austin's cultural history. The space was funded in whole or in part by the City of Austin's Elevate Grant program.
