Bleu Edmondson plays The Saxon Pub on Friday, October 23. He's a Texas songwriter who's been working his way up the local scene for a while now, and this is a headlining night for him at one of the city's most reliable listening rooms.
If you're not familiar with how he got here, it's a bit of a late-bloomer story. Edmondson started writing his own songs at 19, didn't get his first guitar until his 21st birthday, and had a band together by 22. From there, he wrote to the legendary producer Lloyd Maines, who gave him the guidance and the street cred he was after. You can hear where he's coming from in the names he cites: Bruce Springsteen, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, and The Rolling Stones. It's a mix of heartland rock, Texas songwriting, and a bit of a bar-band edge.
His debut album, Southland, produced the hits "50 Dollars and a Flask of Crown" and "Travellin Man," which were the songs that first put him on the Texas music scene. Since then, he's put out Lost Boy, a record that runs to eleven songs, including "Jesus Is Crying," "American Saint," and "The Echo (Maybe Tonight)." Between the two, there's plenty of material to pull from for a full set.
