Benise

Benise plays the Rollins Studio Theatre at The Long Center on Friday, August 21, starting at 7 PM. He's billed as 'The Prince of Spanish Guitar,' and the show is a celebration of 25 years of Spanish guitar and dance.

If you've never heard of him, the name is pronounced Buh-nes-say. He started out as a street performer, and from there he went on to appear on Dancing With The Stars and pick up an Emmy Award for his composing. He describes his show as 'The Latin Riverdance,' and it's a wide-ranging set that moves through Spanish Flamenco, Cuban Salsa, Brazilian Samba, Parisian Waltz, and exotic drumming. He mixes fan favorites from his street-performing days with rock classics like Led Zeppelin's 'Kashmir' and AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck,' and adds his own takes on 'Ave Maria,' 'Moonlight Sonata,' and Vivaldi's 'Summer.'

The show is a venue rental presented by an independent organization separate from the Long Center, so it's not a Long Center production. It's at the Rollins Studio Theatre, 701 W. Riverside Dr., and it kicks off at 7 PM on Friday, August 21.
