Indie pop and indie rock duo Beach Vacation perform live at the 29th Street Ballroom, with support from Tokyo Tea Room.
Beach Vacation play the 29th Street Ballroom on Tuesday, October 5, with Tokyo Tea Room opening. It's an indie pop and indie rock bill, and the headliners bring a history that goes back further than most of their current listeners might realize.
Beach Vacation formed in 2012 when Tabor Rupp and Justyn Newman crossed paths at a high school talent show. They were still sixteen and seventeen when they started getting international attention, and their first EP came out on CD and vinyl in the UK, Japan, and the US. That early reach set the tone for the years that followed.
Since then, the band has worked with some notable names. They signed with Alex Wilhelm, a former Grammy Awards committee member, and Rupp has been the one driving the band forward. Their album Coping Habits was mixed and mastered by Erik Thormshein, who produced Boy Pablo, and they teamed up with Cathedral Bells on the single "Blurred Out."

If you're not familiar with them, they sit in that indie pop and indie rock pocket—melodic and guitar-driven, with the kind of sound that works just as well on a record as it does in a room. Tokyo Tea Room opens the night, so you'll get two acts on the same bill.
Beach Vacation takes the stage at the 29th Street Ballroom, 2906 Fruth St, Austin, TX 78705, on Tuesday, October 5, at 7 PM.
