Rocket Cinema is pairing two cult female-led sci-fi films at Factory on 5th on Friday, September 25: Barbarella (1968) and Switchblade Sisters (1975). It's a double feature that puts Jane Fonda's psychedelic space odyssey alongside Jack Hill's girl-gang classic, and the night is billed as camp meeting grindhouse female badassery.
Barbarella is the one where Fonda travels through a surreal, futuristic galaxy, and it's not without its detractors—one contemporary critic dismissed it as a "sick, heavy-handed fantasy with nudity." Switchblade Sisters is a different kind of cult hit, a 1975 grindhouse flick that Quentin Tarantino loved enough to personally rescue from obscurity and re-release. He told USA Today there was more action in Sisters than in Twister.
