A 30-minute classical music performance for babies, followed by a half-hour of instrument playtime.
Baby's First Symphony is coming to the Milwood Branch Library on Saturday, August 1, with the Highland String Quartet on the program. It's part of the library's Books and Babies series, so it's built for the youngest listeners in the room.
The session is split into two halves. The first 30 minutes is a classical music performance by the quartet, and the second half is an instrument playtime where the little ones get to move around and interact with the instruments. It's a short, focused hour, which is usually about as long as a baby's attention span for something like this anyway.
If you've never taken a baby to a live performance, this is a low-pressure way to do it. The whole thing is designed for the kids, so you don't have to worry about the usual concert etiquette—crying, fidgeting, and general baby chaos are expected. The playtime half lets them get close to the instruments they just heard, which is a nice way to bridge the gap between listening and actually seeing how the sound happens.
