Austrian beer festival with live bluegrass music, vintage bowling, sausage sampling and steinholding contests.
Austoberfest takes over Scholz Garten on Saturday, October 3, from 12 PM to 10 PM. It's an Austrian-themed beer festival that runs all day, and the venue is Austin's oldest beer garden, dating back to 1886. It's also where the city's largest University of Texas tailgate party happens, so it's built for a crowd.
Live music is the main thing throughout the day, with Two Tons of Steel headlining. They're joined by Sour Bridges, Off the Grid, and DJ Vegan Leather. The vibe is relaxed, and lederhosen are encouraged. There's free sausage and a variety of beers on tap, and the day is built around that—music, beer, and food.
Beyond the music, there's a sausage competition with samples to try. The garden also has a vintage bowling alley with six historic USBC lanes, so you can step away from the stage and get a few frames in. For families, there are kids' games and face painting in the North dining room from 12 PM to 4 PM, and admission is free for children under 12.

If you're into the competitive side of things, Scholz Garten is a qualifying location for the Texas Steinholding Championship Tournament. The winners there move on to the finals at Wurstfest. The whole day runs from 12 PM to 10 PM on Saturday, October 3.
