A workshop series helping residents transform their lawns into WaterWise Landscapes through the Austin Water rebate programme, with horticultural staff from the center.
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is hosting the Austin WaterWise Landscaping Series, a new program designed to help Austin residents trade their lawns for water-wise landscapes. The series runs on Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with sessions on September 26, October 3, and October 10, 2026. If you've been thinking about ripping out your grass and replacing it with something that actually makes sense for our climate, this is where you start.
The whole thing centers on the Austin Water rebate program, which pays residents to switch to water-wise landscaping. It's one thing to know the rebate exists; it's another to actually get the money. That's where the series comes in. The workshops offer practical help with the application process, and they don't stop there—they also walk you through the planning and design of a water-wise garden, so you have a real plan before you start digging. You'll be working with the center's own horticulture staff, people who spend their days around the plants that actually thrive here in Central Texas.

Because it's a series, you can drop in for one session or come for all three. The dates are Saturdays, September 26, October 3, and October 10, each from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin. Admission for adults is free, so there's no cost to get the help you need to navigate the rebate and map out your new yard.
