Austin Songcore is hosting its August songwriter showcase at Barrel O' Fun on Thursday, August 13. The lineup features Lo Gentry, ALLYSE, Jennun, and Mitch Moser, each playing original songs and sharing the stories behind them.
This month's assignment is titled "Show Your Work," and it trades the classroom for a listening room. The guest teachers each bring a handful of their own songs and talk through the stories that helped shape them, so you'll hear the songs and the context they came from in the same set. It's a straightforward night of songwriters playing their own material and explaining where it came from.
The venue is Barrel O' Fun, a carnival-inspired bar on the first level of Alamo Drafthouse Mueller. It's a spot that programs bars, live music, live performance, and pub grub, and it was named a 2017 Critics Pick for Best Boozy Spot to Tap Into Your Inner Child. Drinks and food are available at the bar, garage parking is validated, and the night is open to all ages.
