Awards ceremony honouring Austin jazz legends with live performances by local artists and the Living Legends of Austin Jazz.
The Austin Jazz Hall of Fame Awards are coming to The Long Center on Sunday, November 1, at 6 PM. The Austin Jazz Society puts on the ceremony, which honors the people who have shaped the city's jazz scene over the years. This year, the inductees are Jay Trachtenberg, Eddie Durham, Dr. Beulah Agnes Curry Jones, and Roscoe Beck.
It's not just a ceremony with speeches and plaques, though. The night is built around live music as much as the awards themselves. Throughout the evening, local artists take the stage, and the Living Legends of Austin Jazz play in the lobby before the show starts and again during intermission. If you get there early, you can catch them while you're still settling in, and they'll be back out there when the lights come up for the break.
The main stage will feature performances by Ephraim Owens, Andre Hayward, Mitch Watkins, and Pamela Hart. Between the inductees and the musicians, there's a good deal of Austin jazz history on display in one room. The Living Legends playing in the lobby adds another layer to it, so the music starts before you even take your seat.
