Opening reception for three new exhibitions at the Julia C. Butridge Gallery featuring works by Cristina Velásquez, Quentin Pace, and Yamin Li.
Dougherty Arts Center is opening three new exhibitions at the Julia C. Butridge Gallery on Wednesday, August 26, and they're kicking things off with an artist reception from 7 to 9 PM. It's a good night to get a first look at three different bodies of work all hanging in the same space, and since it's a reception, you can walk through them at your own pace.
The first is Somos Animales Poéticos by Cristina Velásquez, which brings her photography into the gallery. Beside it, Quentin Pace shows On and On and On, a collection of abstract painting. And Yamin Li rounds out the trio with Out of Place. Having them together means you can move from photography to abstract painting and then to Li's work in one go, rather than making three separate trips.

The gallery is inside the Dougherty Arts Center at 1110 Barton Springs Road, right at the corner of South Congress and South First. It's a spot that's easy to find if you're already hanging around that part of town, and the reception runs for two hours, so you've got plenty of time to drift between the three shows. The reception is free, and the exhibitions will stay up after the opening night for anyone who can't make it on Wednesday.
