Singer-songwriter Arlo Parks performs live on her Desire Tour at The Mohawk-Austin.
Arlo Parks plays The Mohawk on Thursday, September 10, as part of her Desire Tour. She's the only name on the bill for the night, so the whole set is hers.
If you're not already familiar, Parks is a singer-songwriter and poet from West London. Her sound is a velvety blend of bedroom pop, indie folk, jazz, and R&B—the kind of music that sits comfortably across a few different moods at once. She's often described as a voice for Generation Z, and that makes sense when you look at how she started. She first performed at the 2019 Great Escape Festival and played the BBC Music Introducing stage at Glastonbury, then landed on the BBC's Sound of 2020 list. Her debut single, "Cola," came out when she was 18 and led to a deal with Transgressive Records. That was followed by the Super Sad Generation EP in 2019, and Sophie later that same year.
There's a nice little story behind the name, too. "Arlo" came from a King Krule interview, and "Parks" from a day spent at the park. It's a stage name that feels as unpretentious as the music she writes. Since those early EPs, she's built a reputation for lyrics that are as much about poetry as they are about songwriting, and the Desire Tour is the latest chapter in that. Coming from London, she's bringing that same blend of bedroom pop and jazz to Austin, with the set built around her songs and her voice.
