Arkansas Dave returns to the Clive Bar stage with his band for a late afternoon of blues, rock and roll.
Arkansas Dave returns to the Clive Bar on Saturday, September 26, performing with his band for a late afternoon of blues and rock 'n' roll. It's part of the Americana Austin series, so if you've been following that run, this is the next one on the calendar.
Dave's a self-taught musician who grew up in the piney swamps of South Arkansas, where he cut his teeth playing dive bars and honky tonks across the state. He eventually teamed up with a group of Texans and took the name Arkansas Dave, and his sound still pulls from those roots—blues, gospel, and rock 'n' roll. Since moving to Austin, he's worked as a drummer for several Texas artists, including Guitar Shorty, the Hard Pans (Jimmy Smith and Claude Bernard of the Gourds), Mickey White, Dr. Zog, and Kari K. He also fronts his own group, Ouachita.
He's taken his music well beyond Texas, too. He's played across the United States, into Canada, across Europe, and over to Japan, where he studied taiko under Art Lee and the late Daihachi Oguchi. That's a lot of ground to cover for one musician, and you can hear it in the way he blends those different influences into one set.
