Jazz drummer Ari Hoenig performs as part of the Global Jazz Workshop faculty residency.
Ari Hoenig plays Austin Texas Canyon Lake on Thursday, July 30, as part of his residency with the Global Jazz Workshop. He's the main feature of the night, and the set is built around his drums.
If you're not already familiar with him, Hoenig is an award-winning drummer, composer, educator, and producer with more than 14 albums as a leader. He's also a faculty member at New York University and The New School, so he spends as much time teaching as he does playing. This particular show comes out of his residency at the Global Jazz Workshop, an intensive jazz education program that runs through July, and he's listed among the workshop's faculty artists.
It's a residency, which means he's in town for more than just a one-off date. The Global Jazz Workshop is an intensive program that runs throughout July, and this performance is one of the public-facing parts of that. If you've been following the workshop this month, this is the night where the focus shifts to the stage. The lineup is simple: Ari Hoenig on drums.

He's a drummer who leads from the kit, and with over a dozen albums under his belt, there's a deep catalog behind him. Between the teaching at NYU and The New School and the work he's doing here in Austin this month, he's a musician who's as much about the classroom as he is about the bandstand. The show is on Thursday, July 30, at Austin Texas Canyon Lake.
