Anna La Mare

Anna La Mare plays the Holiday Inn on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 PM. It's part of the SouthWest Regional Folk Alliance 2026, and since she's an Austin singer-songwriter, this is a local artist playing right here in town.

La Mare describes her sound as dark folk Americana, and that's a good place to start. It's folk with a bit of a shadow to it, and the Americana side comes through in the storytelling. She's also open about the things that pull at the edges of her writing: Celtic, Appalachian, and jazz influences all find their way in. She sings the stories she's picked up in her travels, so the songs tend to be about places and people she's come across along the way. If you're not familiar with the name, it's pronounced Lah MAH-ray.

Critics have had a field day trying to pin her down. Some have called her 'emotional honey,' others 'folky Florence and the Machine' or a 'gothic Joan Baez.' One description puts her as 'a soul-driven embodiment of Joni Mitchell.' Whether those comparisons land for you or not, they all point to the same thing: a voice that carries a lot of weight and a style that doesn't sit still in one tradition.

This is just one of her appearances during the festival. She also plays on Friday night and Saturday, so if you can't make the Wednesday show, you've got two more chances to catch her over the course of the week.
