Singer-songwriter Angelyn performs an intimate solo showcase blending country, folk rock and Americana in a happy hour residency.
Angelyn is playing The Dizzy Rooster on Wednesday, October 7, as part of her Happy Hour Residency. It's a solo showcase, so it's just her and her guitar, and she'll be performing a mix of her own songs and some of her favorite covers, with the stories behind them woven in between.
If you haven't come across her yet, here's the background: Angelyn is a 26-year-old singer-songwriter based here in Austin, though she's originally from Huntington Beach, California. She started out playing covers, and from there she formed the band Blind Innocence. Their debut album, Little Girl, toured nationwide before the group broke up in 2020 during the pandemic. Now she's working as a solo artist, and she describes her sound as a blend of country, folk rock, and Americana.
That's exactly what you'll hear on the night—country and Americana at the core, with a folk rock edge. The set mixes her original material with those covers, and she takes the time to talk through the songs as she goes, so you get a sense of where they're coming from. It's a solo act, which keeps things stripped back and focused on the songwriting.
