Austin-based singer-songwriter Andrew Savage performs his high-energy folk rock, Garage Folk, live at the Fairmont Austin.
Andrew Savage plays the Fairmont Austin on Thursday, October 1, at 7:30 PM. He's an Austin-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, and the set is his own—no opening act to work through first.
He calls his sound 'Garage Folk,' a high-energy, heartfelt brand of folk rock that sits somewhere between the 70s singer-songwriter tradition and the early Midwest Emo movement. Much of that comes through in his playing: percussive guitar work and a theatrical stage presence. His debut album, Patchwork, brings together original songs that are authentic, sharply observed, and laced with dark humor, alongside a handful of covers. The writing tends to balance sentimental sincerity with tongue-in-cheek gallows humor, so you'll get the heartfelt stuff and the wry stuff in the same set.
He lists Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and Bright Eyes as influences, and you can hear those names in the way he builds a song—the folk roots, the rock energy, and the focus on the lyrics. When he's not playing his own material, he's also a guitarist in Thee Oh Sees, so he's as comfortable in a full band as he is holding down a room on his own.
