Andrew Duplantis Band plays Hole in the Wall on Tuesday, August 11, with special guest David Goodrich. The set starts at 6 PM.
Duplantis is a bassist with more than 30 years of experience, and his resume reads like a map of a certain kind of Texas rock. He's played with The Meat Puppets, Son Volt, and Molecular Steve, and has shared stages with Bob Mould and the late Jon Dee Graham. He also records and performs under his own name, with the album Sin Pelo among his solo work.
The venue is as much a part of the night as the music. Hole in the Wall opened in 1974 in Austin's campus area as an early folkie hangout and a favorite stage for Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith, and Blaze Foley. From there it became a breeding ground for punk, cosmic country, and alternative that launched the careers of Timbuk3, Fastball, Spoon, and Shakey Graves. The historic two-stage dive still books live music every night and has served as a proving ground for new bands; it briefly shuttered in 2002 and came dangerously close to being priced out in 2015.
