Andrea Magee

Andrea Magee plays a full band show at The Saxon Pub on Friday, October 9. She's a songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist from Belfast, Northern Ireland, who now calls Austin home. As a kid, they called her 'smiler,' and that spirit carries into the music: she plays traditional Irish music and the bodhrán, weaving those roots into country, blues, and pop/rock. It's a sound that pulls from two different worlds, and you can hear the Irish influence sitting right alongside the Texas songwriting she's picked up since moving here.

She didn't just pick up music as a hobby, either. She holds a BA Honours in Music from the University of Ulster and a PGCE in music education, and spent her whole life performing live in a family band. That lifelong stage presence is a good thing to keep in mind for a full band set like this one.

Since moving to the States in 2015, she's worked with British collaborator Ben Jones in the duo Beat Root Revival, releasing albums through Surfdog Records under Dave Kaplan Management. They've toured the world with Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds Tour, Brian Setzer, Jeff Bridges, and Jonathan Jackson, and even played a private party for The Rolling Stones. She's also been a featured artist on Eric Johnson's 2020 Classics Tour. Along the way, she's played ACL Live at The Moody Theater, Radio City Music Hall, and Gruene Hall, with residencies at C Boys Heart & Soul and The Saxon Pub. This show is a return to one of those familiar rooms.
