Inaugural rock music festival by The Music Moves Mountains Foundation, showcasing performing artists with disabilities and neurodivergence in celebration of National Disability Independence Day.
The Music Moves Mountains Foundation is putting on its first All Abilities Rock Music Fest at Central Machine Works on Sunday, July 26. It's a free afternoon of music from three Austin-area bands, all of whom are performers with disabilities and neurodivergence.
The lineup covers a fair bit of ground in a few hours. The Eddie Ray Band brings pop and country; Yesterday & Today play roots rock and roll; and Blue Mist does soul and R&B. Between them, you'll hear three pretty different styles on one stage.
The date is no accident. July 26 is National Disability Independence Day, which marks the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. This festival is the foundation's way of marking it. The Music Moves Mountains Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that works with music therapy, music education, and community outreach to improve quality of life. For fourteen years, they've been putting on free public concerts tailored for the disability community. This particular festival comes with the support of an Elevate grant from the City of Austin's Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment division, and its All Abilities Rock program is built around making music experiences more accessible and inclusive while supporting artists and teachers with special needs.
