Solo gig of Austin-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alex Hartley, who plays piano-driven indie-soul.
Alex Hartley plays a solo set at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Tuesday, October 13. It's a piano-driven indie-soul show, and since it's solo, it's just Hartley and his keys.
If you're not familiar with him, Hartley is an Austin-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who's been writing and performing at the piano since he was a boy. He's a Berklee College of Music graduate and spent time working as a pianist on cruise ships before settling in Austin in 2014. His sound sits in acid jazz, lo-fi soul, and indie pop, and he describes it as piano-driven indie-soul that draws on intricate jazz harmonies, heartfelt lyricism, and a pop sensibility. He's also a session and touring keyboardist for artists like Micky and the Motorcars, Jason Hawk Harris, Jon Wolfe, and Cast Iron Shoes.
On the recording side, he put out his debut EP in 2025 and a second follow-up, both with producer Kyle Crusham, who has worked with Paul Simon and Edie Brickell. Those records feature guitarist Chris McQueen of Snarky Puppy and drummer Jimmy Paxson, who has played with Keith Urban and The Chicks. His influences run from Steely Dan to Vulfpeck and Randy Newman, and you can hear that mix of jazz and pop in the way he builds his songs.
