Two free flamenco shows with music and dance in Zilker Park, featuring A'lante Flamenco and guest musicians, with student dancers from Flamencura opening the show.
A'lante Flamenco is bringing Flamenco Under the Stars to the Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theater in Zilker Park on Friday, September 18, and again on Saturday, September 19. Both shows run from 8 to 10 PM, and they're free. Student dancers from Flamencura open the night, and the main set comes from A'lante Flamenco, Austin's premier flamenco company.
A'lante's whole thing is bridging the distance between Palestine, Cadiz, and Veracruz. They do it by blending fiery Spanish flamenco music and dance with son jarocho and Arabic grooves, so you'll hear and see a few different traditions on one stage. They're joined for these shows by guest musicians Los Fandangueros de Austin, who bring the son jarocho, and Sari Andoni and Josh Peters, who handle the Arabic grooves.
The two performances are part of the City of Austin's Artist Access Program, run through the Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment Department, and are supported in part by an Elevate Grant from the city. The Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theater—also known as Zilker Hillside Theater—is managed by the Dougherty Arts Center. It books only free, open-to-the-public programming, with a season that runs from March through October.
