Concert by Austin-based neo-traditional country artist Aaron McDonnell at Franklin Backyard.
Aaron McDonnell plays Franklin Backyard on Wednesday, September 23, starting at 6:30 PM. He's an Austin-based neo-traditional country artist signed to the local Feels So Good Records, and this is a solo bill—just him on the stage.
If you haven't kept up with his releases, he's been putting out music at a steady clip. He put out the album Too Many Days Like Saturday Night in February 2022, followed by the 2023 EP You Drive Back and the 2024 LP Midnight Pool Mix. Between those, he's toured Ireland, the UK, and across the United States, so he's as comfortable on a road trip as he is playing in his own backyard.
Critics usually point to two things when they talk about his sound: a butter-soft baritone and dreamy pedal steel. That combination puts him in the neo-traditional country camp—music that looks back at the genre's roots while keeping things current. He's played more than 1,500 shows, so he's a veteran of the stage regardless of where he's playing.
