AACHF & Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) - Public Art Open Calls Workshop (Hybrid)

Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) is holding a public art open calls workshop at the African American Cultural and Heritage Facility (AACHF) on Thursday, July 30, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's a hybrid session, so you can show up in person at 912 E 11th St or join via the virtual stream if you'd rather stay home. The whole thing is free and open to the public, though they recommend registering ahead of time.

The workshop is run by AIPP, the city's public art program under Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment (ACME). Right now, AIPP is accepting applications for four public art opportunities with more than $900,000 on the line. The session is built for emerging, mid-career, and established public artists who live in the Austin area or in Texas. If you've been thinking about throwing your hat in the ring but aren't sure where to start, this is exactly that kind of meeting.

It's not just a presentation, either. They're asking attendees to bring a laptop so you can start or keep working on your application right there. If you've already got a draft going, you can bring it along and chip away at it; if you're starting from scratch, you can get the first few sections knocked out. Having the AIPP folks in the room while you work makes it a lot easier to get your questions answered in real time rather than emailing back and forth.
