Intimate micro-opera performances by One Ounce Opera in a small venue, with three new 20-minute works sung in English.
One Ounce Opera is back at dadaLab this July with its eighth Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera, the company's annual micro-opera showcase. It runs from July 17 through July 25, with performances on the 17th, 18th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Evening shows start at 7:30 PM, and matinees on the 19th and 25th are at 2:30 PM.
The format is the same as in previous years: three brand-new micro-operas, each around 20 minutes long and sung in English, performed by local professionals. The whole program runs about 70 minutes. To pick the three they stage, the company reviews more than 100 works submitted from around the world. The showcase is recommended for ages 12 and up.
One Ounce Opera is a nonprofit performing arts producer that's been reimagining opera in unexpected spaces since 2012. Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera is their annual showcase, and they've built it around an intimate setting—this one is in an air-conditioned room of about 85 seats. Doors and a complimentary bar open 30 minutes before each show, pouring Live Oak Brewing beer alongside wine, sparkling water, and still water.

Tickets are $25. You can catch it at dadaLab, 2008 Alexander Ave in East Austin, on July 17, 18, 19 (matinee), 21, 23, 24, and 25 (matinee), with evening shows at 7:30 PM and matinees at 2:30 PM.
