Feats of Clay Pottery is starting a new six-week class on Wednesday, August 26, led by instructor Adele. It's a course on making urns and reliquaries—vessels meant to hold the remains of a loved one, human or pet—and it runs every Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM through September 30.
Over the six weeks, you'll work with both the wheel and hand-building techniques. The focus is on creating a design specific to the individual you're honoring, so the piece becomes a personal tribute rather than something off a shelf. Some studio experience is preferred, but beginners can take the class too, so you don't need to be a seasoned potter to sign up.
Feats of Clay is a woman-owned and operated ceramics studio that's been around since 1976. It's home to artists, professionals, and hobbyists alike, and they describe themselves as community-driven, fun-loving, and very Austin. Beyond this course, the studio offers classes, workshops, and private lessons, and The Gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM.
