Pot Daddy Studio is a donation-based pottery studio in Austin’s West Hills, at 100 Lake Hills Drive South, Austin, TX 78733. Classes take place outdoors in a climate-controlled glass geodesic dome surrounded by trees and plants. The setting is informal and unusual: the artist’s house is covered with eclectic art and lights, while the pottery stations sit inside the dome with soft lighting and views of the surrounding woods. It feels more like a creative group activity than a traditional classroom, making it suitable for a date night, a small outing, or a solo afternoon. The studio is for adults 18 and older; children and pets are not permitted.

The main experience is a guided two-hour pottery class for all skill levels. Instructors walk participants through wheel throwing, centering, shaping, and glazing, and the studio provides the supplies, including yellow jumpsuits, smocks or aprons, and Crocs. Teachers mentioned by the studio and reviewers include Katie, John Davis (also referred to as John David), Jeremiah, and Neelam. Reviews describe them as patient, helpful, knowledgeable, and welcoming, with John also incorporating mindfulness into his teaching. Google reviews currently show a 5.0-star rating from roughly 463 to 477 reviews, although ratings can change over time.
The studio’s most distinctive feature is its “leave a piece, take a piece” system. You make one piece during class, glaze a piece left by another participant, and choose a finished, fired item from the community collection to take home. Your own work needs several weeks to dry and be fired, so it is not ready immediately. Finished pieces may also be purchased. The suggested donation is $50–$100 per person, and reservations are required, with one reservation per participant. Classes often fill quickly, and cancellations should be made at least 24 hours ahead; a waitlist is available when a date is full. The studio’s website is the best place to check current availability and details before heading to West Hills.
