Livra Books, also known as Livra Books and Curiosities, is a used and rare bookstore at 4101 Guadalupe St #200 in Hyde Park. It officially opened on September 28, 2024, growing out of a backyard pop-up that owner Moctezuma Seth Gonzalez started in 2022. The shop describes itself as “eclectic. cozy. serendipitous,” and that comes through in the setup: plants and trees fill the space, including an 8-foot-tall ficus, while the inventory is tracked with pen and paper rather than a standard digital system.

The selection ranges from $5 paperbacks to centuries-old collectibles. Livra is especially known for rare finds, vintage curiosities, and Spanish-language books, with stock sourced across the United States and from Latin America, including Mexico and Argentina. Examples of the collection include a first printing of The Great Gatsby, early Taliesin School pamphlets connected to Frank Lloyd Wright, a 1701 book about the proper use of opium, and a 1679 surgical pathology book with illustrations and handwritten notes. There is also a first edition of Octavio Paz’s El Laberinto de la Soledad, signed for artist Rufino Tamayo, although that particular book is not for sale. More accessible items are available too, such as Dawoud Bey’s Street Portraits, listed at $110.
The staff includes knowledgeable booksellers, some of whom are PhD candidates or graduates, so the store suits both casual browsing and people looking for context about unusual editions. Livra also runs book clubs and Theory Night discussions. Several listed events took place in 2025 and early 2026, including a March 17, 2026 discussion of Tools for Conviviality; the April 4–5, 2026 Austin Texas Book Trail was another opportunity to visit.
