Austin Guitar House: A Downtown Shop for Guitar Players

If you play guitar and like looking at high-end instruments, Austin Guitar House is a boutique shop on East 12th Street, downtown. It sells guitars, basses, amplifiers, effects pedals and accessories, and it has been open since 2011. You'll find it at 1104 East 12th St, Austin, TX 78702. The phone number is 512.243.6036.

The shop carries brands like Collings, Larrivée, Xotic, Keeley, Dr. Z, PRS, Erlewine, Novo Serus, Fender, Suhr, Nash and Forshage. It's an authorized dealer for Nash and Xotic. The range goes from effects pedals to expensive vintage pieces. On the website, a Keeley Compressor Plus is listed at $149.00, a Larrivée OM-03 Mahogany at $2,149.00, a Collings C-00 Sunburst at $8,345.00 and a 1964 Fender Stratocaster in Charcoal Frost Metallic refinish at $14,999.00. The Nash guitars listed go from $1,999.00 for a used S-63 in Lake Placid Blue up to $3,562.00 for a JG-63 in Teal Green Metallic. These prices come from the website and may change.

The shop offers free shipping on new equipment and doesn't charge sales tax to customers outside Texas. It also works with consignment sales, layaway and trade-ins.

The shop has 4.5 out of 5 stars from 181 reviews on Google Maps. Most people talk about the service, the chance to try gear and the staff's knowledge. One customer calls it an excellent experience and a very cool place with knowledgeable employees. Another says the service was top notch and that Fritz knew a lot about the amps. A trade-in for a Collings I-35 LC Vintage, handled by Brent, also got strong praise. Some reviews point out that, as a high-end boutique, the staff can be selective about letting people test specific gear unless you ask for a particular model, so it helps to name what you want to try.

The shop is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 12:00 to 17:00, and it's closed on Sundays and Mondays. If you're planning a visit, call 512.243.6036 or check the website first.
