UpTempo teen night with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nathalie Stutzmann, featuring Fauré's Requiem.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra brings Fauré's Requiem to the Woodruff Arts Center on Thursday, November 12, as part of their UpTempo teen night. The evening is split into two parts: an interactive pre-concert session at 6:45 PM, followed by the full orchestra concert at 8 PM.
UpTempo is the ASO's youth-and-family experience, designed for teens in grades 6â12. The pre-concert session is led by music professionals and pairs a guest speaker with a teen musician, with composers, performers, and educators offering their perspectives on music today. This particular session is hosted by Dr. Brittan Braddock, Director of Bands at Mercer University, and features guest speaker Dr. Gary Gerber, Dean of the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University.
The main event is Fauré's Requiem, conducted by Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann. She frames the program around two of the most potent voices of 19th-century French music, Hector Berlioz and Gabriel Fauré. The Requiem itself is often called the "lullaby of death," a title that hints at its softer, more comforting tone than the dramatic, thundering Requiems you might be more familiar with. It's part of the ASO's 2026/27 Classical Season, Brahms Revealed, which is Stutzmann's fifth with the orchestra.
