Chicago power pop quartet Time Thieves play Rocky Mountain Pizza in Atlanta.
Time Thieves play Rocky Mountain Pizza tonight, Monday, October 19, starting at 7 PM. They're a Chicago power pop quartet that's been around since 2015, when guitarist and vocalist Jonathan Pool and original drummer Mike Oberlin set out to start a band inspired by The Rentals and Grandaddy. That power pop label fits—they treat their music as an exercise in melody and songcraft, drawing on years of Midwestern DIY experience to deliver concise, catchy songs.
The current lineup brings together a few different threads from the Chicago scene. Pool also plays in Brickfight and Sass Dragons; lead guitarist and vocalist Tim Reynolds comes from Hospital Job and Horrible Things; and drummer Mustafa Daka has played in The Brokedowns, Smoking Popes and Post Child. Bassist Micki Harris joined as a permanent member after longtime bassist Annie Saunders moved to Minneapolis. Reynolds is also a visual artist and former graphic design manager at Polyvinyl, where he worked with American Football and Alvvays, and he designed the artwork for the band's single.
