The Stray Cats, the rockabilly band formed by Brian Setzer, perform live at the Fox Theatre with support from Midnight Cowgirls.
The Stray Cats play the Fox Theatre on Friday, November 27, with support from Midnight Cowgirls. It's a stop on their US tour, and for anyone who knows the band, it's a familiar lineup: guitarist and vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bassist Lee Rocker, and drummer Slim Jim Phantom.
If you're not that familiar, the three of them are the ones who put rockabilly back on the record charts in the early 1980s. They formed in 1979 in Massapequa, New York, and moved to London in the summer of 1980, just as a rockabilly revival was starting to take hold there. With their exaggerated pompadours, colorful tattoos, and genuine musical chops, they evoke the best players of rockabilly's original heyday. They scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic, including "Runaway Boys," "Rock This Town," "Stray Cat Strut," "(She's) Sexy + 17," and "I Won't Stand in Your Way."
