Girl-fronted circus punk band from Washington state plays an all-ages night at Altar, a room inside The Masquerade.
The Rat Utopia Experiment play The Masquerade on Friday, October 23, their first Atlanta date since they started out in Washington state. They're a girl-fronted punk band that describes its sound as "circus punk," and they've billed themselves as the Pacific Northwest's favorite circus act since 2022. If you're not familiar with the name, the "circus" part is the lead: it's punk with a theatrical, carnival-esque streak running through it, and they've been playing under that banner for four years now.
The lineup is a five-piece. Phia is on vocals, Francis on bass, Maddox on lead guitar, Drix on rhythm guitar, and Christian on drums. With two guitars and a full rhythm section, it's a loud, full-band setup rather than a stripped-back punk outfit, so you'll get the full sound they've built around that circus-punk label.
The show is an all-ages night, which means you can bring along younger friends or siblings without worrying about age restrictions. It's taking place in Altar, one of the rooms inside The Masquerade on Lower Alabama Street, rather than the main stage. If you've been to the venue before, you know it's a multi-room spot, so keep in mind that Altar is the specific room for this one.
