Hip hop, reggae and R&B tour show with Shyne, reggae icon Barrington Levy and rap legend Lil' Cease at Variety Playhouse.
Shyne headlines Variety Playhouse on Sunday, November 1, with reggae icon Barrington Levy and rap legend Lil' Cease joining him. It's part of his '2622' tour, a 26-date run he's calling a celebration of the golden eras of hip hop, reggae and R&B.
If you're not familiar with the name, Shyne is Moses Michael Leviy, born in Belize City in 1978. He rose to prominence with his platinum-certified self-titled album Shyne in 2000 and the gold Godfather Buried Alive in 2004. Beyond his own records, he's sold over 40 million albums as a performer, writer and producer on projects by Usher, Lil Wayne and the Notorious B.I.G. He was discovered by producer DJ Clark Kent, who noted his vocal similarity to Biggie, and he became a protégé of P. Diddy, touted as a new star for Bad Boy Entertainment.
That run was cut short in January 2000 when he was indicted on attempted murder charges stemming from a December 27, 1999 incident at Club New York, which also involved Diddy. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on June 1, 2001. After he was deported, the former Bad Boy artist never toured to support his debut album. This tour is the first time he's taking that material on the road.
