The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra presents Prokofiev's Fourth Symphony conducted by William Langley, with tenor Ian Bostridge performing Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra brings Prokofiev's Fourth Symphony to Atlanta Symphony Hall on Thursday, May 13, and again on Saturday, May 15, 2027. Both performances start at 8 PM. The program is part of the Delta Classical Series 3, and it's built around the ASO debut of tenor Ian Bostridge.
Bostridge takes the lead on Benjamin Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, joined by ASO Principal Horn Ryan Little. The ASO describes Bostridge as bringing his famously abundant musical intelligence to the piece, and it's the one that puts him center stage for the evening. The rest of the program is led by ASO Resident Conductor William Langley, who handles the orchestral works.
Those works are Walter Piston's ballet music The Incredible Flutist and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 4, performed in its 1947 revision. The ASO describes the Prokofiev as fierce and boisterous, and it's the symphony that gives the whole evening its name. Between the Britten, the Piston, and the Prokofiev, the night moves from the intimate, voice-led Serenade to the full weight of the orchestra.
