A chamber music experience from the Music Discovery Series, featuring The Hera Trio in an intimate educational setting for students.
The Hera Trio are performing at the Atlanta Symphony Hall on Tuesday, October 20, as part of the Music Discovery Series. It's a school-day program, so the sessions run in the morning—10 AM and 11:15 AM—and each one lasts 45 minutes. The series was formerly called Chamber Music Experiences, and it's built for students in grades 3 through 12, though the sessions are tailored to the age and musical experience of each group that visits.
The whole thing is designed to be a behind-the-scenes look at how music actually gets made. Rather than a formal concert, the performances are staged in an intimate setting and paired with Q&A sessions, so the musicians talk through what they're doing as much as they play it. That conversational side is a big part of the appeal, especially for students who already play instruments themselves.
If you're bringing a school group, there are a couple of ways to stretch the visit. Middle and high school groups can add a Symphony Hall Tour, and elementary-aged children can add Instrument Exploration Stations—each one adds 45 to 60 minutes to the trip. The series falls under Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann, whose live performances, media initiatives, and learning programs are all part of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's work to bring orchestral music to the community. The venue can hold up to 160 students, and larger groups can be accommodated upon request.
