Jazz piano concert by Atlanta artist Kenny Banks Jr. in the sanctuary of All Saints' Episcopal Church, followed by a Q&A with Artistic Director Virginia Schenck.
Kenny Banks Jr. plays piano at All Saints' Episcopal Church on Friday, November 13, at 7 PM. The concert takes place in the church sanctuary, and it's part of the third season of Jazz at All Saints', the parish's concert series led by artistic director Virginia Schenck.
Banks is an Atlanta resident and a Yamaha artist, and he's one of the most dynamic jazz artists in the Southeast. He's known for blending jazz and gospel with Afro-Cuban and hip-hop influences, and Downbeat magazine has described his arrangements as "thrilling, modern, and surprising." He's a brilliant soloist who started playing piano at seven, trained in music theory, jazz, and composition by his father, pianist Kenny Banks Sr., and found the church his first musical outlet through his mother, a church music director.
He tours regularly with vocalist Kurt Elling and vibraphonist Stefon Harris, plays New York jazz clubs with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and has performed alongside Theo Croker, Darren English, Jennifer Holiday, Jazzmeia Horn, and Kenny Lattimore. The evening belongs to the third season of Jazz at All Saints', and after the concert, there's a Q&A led by Virginia Schenck, followed by a reception in the Parish House.
