Indie rock show by Ian Sweet, fronted by Jilian Medford, with Meg Elsier at Aisle 5, presented by Masquerade.
Ian Sweet plays Aisle 5 on Tuesday, October 27, with Meg Elsier opening. The show is part of the Masquerade cycle, and it's open to all ages.
If you're not familiar with the name, Ian Sweet is a band rather than a solo act, fronted by indie rock singer and songwriter Jilian Medford. She's led a revolving group of musicians for the past decade, and the sound is built on edgy, heavily layered, and often reverbed guitar angst delivered with intensity and conviction. The latest album, Shiverstruck, pulls back a bit from those overdubbed guitars in favor of a more organic and melodic style — a shift you can hear on the single "Criminal Kissing," which fans of PJ Harvey are likely to appreciate.
Medford's project draws on her early days in the Boston DIY scene and her later move to Los Angeles. After her debut LP, Shapeshifter, she returned to a solo endeavor, and Crush Crusher is described as her most self-reflective and emotionally analytical work to date. Between the new material and the older records, there's a fair bit of ground to cover.
