Hiss Golden Messenger performs live at Terminal West, presenting their album 'I'm People', with special guest Sam Amidon.
Hiss Golden Messenger play Terminal West on Sunday, October 18, as part of the I'm People tour. They're bringing along special guest Sam Amidon to open the night.
The band is led by vocalist and guitarist M.C. Taylor, whose songs mix honky-tonk country, roots rock and contemporary folk. He formed the group with Scott Hirsch in 2007 after their previous band, The Court & Spark, dissolved. The duo relocated to North Carolina and leaned into a more country-oriented sound, releasing their debut album Country Hai East Cotton in 2009, followed by Bad Debt in 2010, Poor Moon in 2011 and The Lateness of Dancers in 2014. That last one brought them wider appeal and a national television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman, where they played "Southern Grammar."
Taylor is known for his working-class hero vocals and for playing with the crowd between songs. The set will center on the new album, I'm People, which is what they're touring right now.
