All-ages show by the Atlanta indie and midwest emo duo Hey, Nothing at the Variety Playhouse.
Hey, Nothing play Variety Playhouse on Friday, October 30, their home-city show in Atlanta. The duo consists of Tyler Mabry and Harlow Phillips, who are barely 20 years old and have built their sound around poetic lyrics and heartfelt emotion. They pull from a few different directions at once—emo and midwest emo, indie and folk—and they're playing as a pair.
Their 2024 EP Maine was a major breakthrough for them, written in a cabin in the middle of Maine. Since then, they've put out a newer EP, 33°, which focuses on grief, and the single "Waiting Room," which looks at anxiety and vulnerability. Between the two, there's enough new material to carry a good part of the set.
They've already sold out headlining runs and picked up notices from NPR Music, Alternative Press, Pigeons & Planes, Stereogum and Brooklyn Vegan. This show comes after a big 2025 festival run that included Kilby Block Party, Bonnaroo, Summerfest, Lollapalooza, Hinterland, Bumbershoot, Shaky Knees, All Things Go and Austin City Limits.
