Family holiday concert with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, conducted by William R. Langley, featuring carols, a sing-along and selections from 'The Nutcracker' for children 12 and under.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra brings its Winter Wonderland family concert to Atlanta Symphony Hall on Sunday, December 6, with two performances that afternoon: one at 1:30 PM and another at 3:00 PM. It's built for children 12 and under and their families, and it's not just a sit-still-and-listen kind of thing. Actors and dancers join the full orchestra on stage for a festive mission to deck the halls and spread holiday cheer, so the kids get more than just music to look at.
The program is a mix of holiday carols, orchestral pieces, and a sing-along. It opens with Rocket Sleigh by Delvyn Case and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Marks, then moves into an excerpt from Louise Farrenc's Symphony No. 3. From there, it's into the holiday classics: Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride, the Concert Suite from Alan Silvestri's The Polar Express, and selections from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. The whole thing wraps up with A Holly and Jolly Sing-Along! by James Stephenson, which is where the kids get to join in.
