Annual opening concert of the Georgia State University School of Music choral program, featuring University Singers, Treble Choir, Tenor-Bass Choir, Choral Union and Perimeter Chorale.
The Georgia State University School of Music opens its choral season with the Fall Choral Showcase on Thursday, October 22, at the Rialto Center for the Arts. It's the program's first concert of the academic year, and it brings together five of the school's ensembles on one stage: the University Singers, Treble Choir, Tenor-Bass Choir, Choral Union, and Perimeter Chorale. Those groups pull students from both the Atlanta and Perimeter campuses, so you're hearing a good cross-section of the program in one night.
The program is built around that variety, with pieces spanning different styles, traditions, and cultures rather than sticking to one era or region. The Tenor-Bass Choir will be led by guest conductor Dr. Emorja Roberson, the Director of Choral Activities at Voorhees University, who's coming in to take the podium for that particular group.
The showcase is part of the School of Music Scholarship Series, and the proceeds go toward student scholarships, so your ticket helps keep the program running. The venue, the Rialto Center for the Arts, is GSU's downtown home for jazz, world music, and dance, and this season marks its 30th year bringing performances and arts education to downtown Atlanta.
