CineConcerts brings the film Elf to life with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performing John Debney's score while the film is projected on a 40-foot HD screen.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is bringing Elf to the Atlanta Symphony Hall for two shows this November: Saturday, Nov 28, at 7 PM and Sunday, Nov 29, at 3 PM. It's a CineConcert, which means the whole movie plays on a 40-foot HD screen while the orchestra performs John Debney's score live in the room. Every note of the soundtrack is played by the ASO, so you're hearing the music as it was written, not just as it's mixed for a home speaker.
If you've seen Elf a dozen times, you already know the story: Buddy was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised among Santa's elves, then travels to New York in full elf uniform to find his real father. It's directed by Jon Favreau and stars Will Ferrell, and it's widely considered one of the best holiday movies ever made. The score is by John Debney, who also conducts the performance. He's called it a highlight of his career and says the film has become a modern classic.

Because the movie is projected on that 40-foot screen, you get the full experience—the visuals, the dialogue, and the music—all at once. It's a good way to see a movie you already love, and it works as a family outing since it's a holiday favorite. The two dates give you a choice between a Saturday night and a Sunday matinee, so you can pick the one that fits your weekend better. The ASO takes on the whole score, and the movie runs in full, from start to finish. The shows are at the Atlanta Symphony Hall, with the first at 7 PM on Saturday, Nov 28, and the second at 3 PM on Sunday, Nov 29.
