The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performs John Debney's score live to film for the Disney movie 'Hocus Pocus', directed by Kenny Ortega.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is bringing Hocus Pocus to the Atlanta Symphony Hall this Halloween season, with two performances: Friday, October 30, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, November 1, at 3:00 PM. It's a live-to-film concert, which means the movie plays on the big screen while the orchestra performs the score in time with the picture. If you've seen the film a dozen times, this is a different way to experience it.
The movie is Disney's 1993 Halloween comedy Hocus Pocus, directed by Kenny Ortega and starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. It follows three seventeenth-century Sanderson sisters who are comically outwitted by three prankster kids, aided by Thackery Binx, a boy turned into a cat centuries earlier. The score was written by John Debney, an Emmy Award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated composer, and the ASO will be playing his work live as the scenes unfold on screen.

Stuart Chafetz conducts the orchestra for both dates. The two-performance run gives you a choice between a Friday night show and a Sunday matinee, so you can pick whichever fits your Halloween plans better. The ASO is performing the score in time with the film, and the movie is Hocus Pocus in its entirety. The two dates are Friday, October 30, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, November 1, at 3:00 PM, both at the Atlanta Symphony Hall.
