If you're not familiar with them, Boy Harsher is an American electronic group formed in 2013 in Savannah, Georgia, and now based in Northampton, Massachusetts. The duo consists of vocalist Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller. Their sound pulls from a wide range of electronic styles—dance, goth, cold wave, dark wave, minimal synth, electro-pop, industrial, and electronic—so the set usually sits somewhere between a dance floor and a dark room.
That mix is the core of what they do. The cold wave and dark wave side brings the mood, while the dance and electro-pop elements keep it moving. It's music that works as well for standing still as it does for dancing, and the Variety Playhouse is a good spot to do either.
