Finale concert of the 2026/27 season by the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, led by music director William R. Langley.
The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra closes its 2026/27 season with a finale concert at Atlanta Symphony Hall on Sunday, May 9, 2027. The orchestra is led by Music Director William R. Langley, and this performance marks the third and final concert of their year, following the Overture Concert in November 2026 and the Crescendo Concert in February 2027.
It's a good time to get a sense of who they are if you've never seen them. The ASYO was founded in 1974 as a subsidiary of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and it's built around giving the region's most talented young musicians a chance to perform orchestral masterworks at a high level. Every year, more than 300 instrumentalists in 8th through 12th grade audition for a place in the 120-chair ensemble. The orchestra has a long track record of producing alumni who've gone on to become soloists, conductors, and educators at conservatories around the world.
Over five decades, the group has also looked beyond the city. They've staged cultural exchanges with youth orchestras from Great Britain, Australia, Berlin, and several US cities, and they played during the 1996 Cultural Olympiad and the Closing Ceremonies of the 1996 Olympic Games. This finale is the season's closing statement, bringing together the work they've put in since the fall.
